"The ponies run, the girls are young, the odds are there to beat.
You win a while, and then it's done - your little winning streak"*
Welcome to my website where you will find articles (the majority of which have been published in the London Racing Club magazine) mainly about trips to Irish horse race meetings.
These span a period of more than 25 years. They include betting tales as well as some restaurant and travel suggestions.
Galway 2023 - lots of dining and a bit of horse racing and betting…

Below is an example of my approach to horse race betting. I concentrate on turf flat racing so have very few horse bets between November and March.
I place the occasional NH wager but this tends to be in the major races and at the festivals.
Longchamp's Prix de L'Arc de Triomphe has proved a profitable race for me in recent years.
2022 A profitable Arc day despite not backing a winner. In the Arc itself we were close with 2nd and 4th (both profitable EW bets).
Alpinista (drawn six) held off one of my selections, Vadeni (drawn two) to win the 2022 Arc.
The Abbaye, also run on Arc day, often favours horses drawn low. Amazingly two of my three EW selections also occupied 2nd and 4th places. My runner-up started at 20/1 and was beaten just a head.
It's clear from the above article that I concentrate on horses drawn 1-6 in the Arc.
In 2019 my two (Twitter) suggestions were Waldgeist (drawn 3), won at 16/1, and Sottsass finished close up third (drawn 1).
2020 produced an even better result when (Twitter) suggestions Sottsass (drawn 4 became 3) won - having been advised at 12/1 & 8/1 - and the other choice, In Swoop (drawn 1), suggested @ 10/1 ew, finished second to land a decent forecast:
Sottsass beats In Swoop for the perfect one-two in the 2020 Arc.
2021 provided the biggest shock for many years when 66/1 Torquator Tasso (drawn 12) overcame the pair drawn two and three. A tremendous result for the bookmakers but not for me!

I offered a free points-based advisory betting service, starting on my blog in 2009 and finishing on Twitter on 14 October 2023 (with the exception of 2020) (@Mikedq).
The blog achieved 1,622 points profit (21.5% ROI) up to 2016. Twitter bets accumulated 201 points profit up to and including April 2019.
Total profit was therefore 1,823 points or £18,230 at £10 a point. (Bets not resolved were displayed on the 2019 Twitter schedule).
After a break from points-based advice in 2020, I re-introduced a points system in 2021 for advice on Twitter.
Results for 2021: Stakes 436.6pts Profit 123.6pts (28.2%).
Results for 2022: Stakes 307.6pts Profit 19.53pts (6.35%).
Results for 2023: Stakes 518.6pts Profit 111.76pts (21.5%) Service finished 14.10.23
Accumulative Twitter advice results for 2021-23: Stakes 1262.8pts Profit 254.89pts (20.18%)
Meanwhile betting avenues for me have almost completely dried up because of severe restrictions on my remaining accounts.
I am now almost exclusively confined to the Betfair Exchange. Betting has been fun and very profitable while it lasted. . |

There where the course is,
Delight makes all of the one mind,
The riders upon the galloping horses,
The crowd that closes in behind
