I think it's worth taking a small bet on Baghdatis to win this current tournament in Cincinnati. Having beaten Nadal last night after being 0-6 HTH he faces Federer in the semi-final. The HTH is almost as bad although Marcos posted his first win over Fed this year at Indian Wells and now trails him 1-6. However before this year's victory he'd not played him for two years.
The other semi is between Fish and Roddick. He holds a 3-0 HTH against Fish so would obviously start favourite against him however he's 1-2 against Roddick but has not played him for three years. Therefore I'm having 2pts at 13/2 Baghdatis to win Cincinnati with Totesport.
News from the women's event is that ante-post favourite Serena Williams will miss the tournament through injury. We have three bets so far on the event and our main hope Azarenka is now in to 7/1 so I'm happy with the 16/1 we secured.
In the men's event Federer, Nadal and Murray are similarly priced around the 3/1 mark so the 11/2 Murray we took looks fair. However Murray looked exhausted in the heat yesterday in his defeat to Fish. Nadal went down in three sets to Baghdatis and made an uncharacteristic number of unforced errors in doing so. Having said that Marcos played very well - his serve in particular working well. He was coming off the back of a win over Berdych so is clearly in form. I reckon Baghdatis is worth a speculative 1pt ew with Betfred at 150/1 for the New York event. If you can't get on with Fred VC is 125/1. That will give us three runners in the men's event with our 33/1 Nalbandian (now 20/1 best each way).
All the speculation proved correct and CB has joined Cardiff on a one - year loan deal. We have done ok taking 16/1 for the Championship as they are generally 10/1 shots now.
I've pressed up on Craig Bellamy by having three points at 9/1 on Bellamy being top Championship scorer. Available with sky bet and Coral.
I've been considering a bet on the Championship since the season started. This is a notoriously difficult league in which to find the winner. The fact that it's 8/1 the field tells you that. I like the look of Cardiff City who won narrowly at Derby on Saturday. They encountered some money issues a couple of weeks ago because of non-payment of tax. That all seems to have been cleared up as they are now - apparently - making a bid for a loan signing of Craig Bellamy.
In many ways Bellamy is a nightmare player. He usually finds someone to fall out with at his club. Man City has proved no exception. On the other hand I'd say he is an impact player who will have a positive influence in his first 6-12 months at a club. That could be enough impetus for Cardiff to go close to winning this league. After all they reached the play-offs last term where they were beaten by Blackpool.
Even if he doesn't sign I still rate them a bet as this activity demonstrates the ambitions of the club. I've had 4pts at 16/1 Cardiff to win the Championship with Victor Chandler. (Also available with Blue Sq/888.com)
Has just won the Masters event in Toronto. He looked very impressive in the final beating Federer in straight sets. This followed a win over Nadal in the semis and before that he defeated in-form Nalbandian. Unfortunately everyone else knows this and the prices for AM to win the US Open have contracted to such an extent that he is close to favouritism.
The best price on offer is 4/1 which is a little skinny. However Bodog with lay you 11/2 that AM wins "exactly one grand slam" this year, which of course is the same thing! Therefore I've had 6pts on Andy one slam at 11/2.
There is a danger he may have peaked too early but 11/2 is a fair price.
